Class with Nasty Canasta: Why Did the Stripper Cross the Road?

Jul. 7, 2018 1:30pm at The Creative Alliance, Baltimore, MD

As an offshoot of vaudeville, classic burlesque shows interspersed glamorous striptease with absurd baggy-pants comedy. Contemporary neo-burlesque has evolved into a seamless mix of sex and humor, with the comedy often being performed by the glamorous showgirls (and boys) themselves.

Like costuming and choreography, comedy must be a carefully considered and deliberately crafted element of your burlesque performance - whether you’re itching to create a naked slapstick pie-in-the-face extravaganza, or just add a wink and a nod to a classically elegant striptease. In this lecture and discussion-based class we’ll take a look at the performance of comedy; explore our own individual comedic styles; and learn how to combine humor and tease to create a unique and memorable burlesque act.

Open to all experience levels and performance styles.
